Manual for correct packaging

We will deliver your package with care to where it belongs. But we need your help. For our service to work 100%, packages must be properly packed. But that's in your hands.

Common parcel transportation

Normal parcel transportation is provided by Balíkovna, DPD, Fedex, GLS, UPS and WE|DO. This is a systemic parcel transport where all parcels are sorted automatically by conveyor belts without exception. The following rules apply to this type of transport:

  • Pack in cardboard boxes (an irregularly shaped parcel could get stuck on the conveyors and damage more than just itself).
  • Adequate amount of filler material (bubble wrap, air bags, Styrofoam, etc.).
  • Do not send fragile goods (these carriers do not offer any special service for fragile shipments, they are all sorted indiscriminately, so we do not recommend sending fragile goods, glass and porcelain).

How to pack a common parcel correctly

  • We recommend using new boxes made of multi-layered cardboard
  • Use as much internal padding as possible, at least 5 cm from the walls of the box.
  • Wrap strong tape around all joined parts and flaps.
  • Weigh and measure the parcel. If the weight differes, we may charge you for any weight differences.
  • Special shipments that cannot be put in a box, wrap with cardboard. However, a fee may be charged for such packaged shipment.
  • Remove, or thoroughly re-sticker, all old labels and addresses on the package.
  • Write the sender's and recipient's addresses on the package (in case the shipping label is torn off).
  • Check to see if your chosen carrier requires label printing. The driver most often brings the label himself.
  • For parcels outside the European Economic Area, stick on a plastic "shirt" and attach the necessary documents.

Parcels must be packed in such a way that they will be able to withstand:

impact equivalent to a drop of 1 meter
pressure proportional to five times its own weight
vibration caused by movement on roller conveyors

Normal parcel transport

Beware of black stretch foil!

For parcels wrapped in black stretch foil, carriers have experienced problems with barcode reading, which can cause delays in shipping, for example. To ensure that your shipments travel smoothly from sender to recipient, carriers do not accept parcels packaged in this way! Unfortunately, we often encounter parcels packaged in this way, which is why DPD subsequently charges us additional charges for non-manipulated shipments.

Pack in a regular shaped box

The same also applies to a parcel packed in a carton box other than the regular shape. Always pack your shipments in a regular carton shape for system parcel carriers (GLS, DPD, UPS, FedEx, TNT). Parcels packed differently may not be accepted for shipment by the carrier.

Atypical, oversized package or pallet

Transport of oversized and atypical shipments is provided by TOPTRANS. Parcels are sorted manually and undergo less or even no transshipment. Express transport of parcels up to 15 kg in Brno, Prague and Ostrava is provided by the courrier Liftago. Packaging requirements for these courriers are not as strict.

Therefore, in addition to oversized parcels, TOPTRANS also focuses on atypically shaped shipments that cannot be packed in a cardboard box and sent by a system parcel carrier (GLS, DPD, UPS).

How to properly pack an oversized or atypical shipment

Cardboard box

If the nature of the goods to be shipped permits, try to pack it in a cardboard box. Handling a shipment packed in this manner is most convenient and the goods are best protected against external influences.

Any packaging

For goods that you simply cannot pack in a box, try to pack at least all parts susceptible to damage, breakage or soiling. You can wrap these parts with bubble wrap and cover them with cardboard sheet and strech film.

How to properly pack goods on a pallet

  • Only undamaged pallets are accepted for shipment, we recommend regular EURO pallets.
  • The goods must be firmly secured to the pallet with foil or ties.
  • It is necessary to wrap the parcel with foil at least 3 times, also from above.
  • The goods on the pallet must not extend beyond its plan dimension. If any part of an atypical shipment does protrude beyond the footprint of the pallet, that part must be secured in such a way that it cannot be damaged and will not damage other shipments in transit.
  • Place heavier items at the bottom of the pallet and lighter items at the top.
  • The centre of gravity of the pallet should be approximately in the middle.
  • Maximum pallet height is 2 m.
  • Circular objects e.g. cylinders, barrels, etc. must be tied and secured against rolling and shifting, e.g. with wedges.

Tires

Although we can't arrange changing the tires, how to send the wheels to the car, but we can advise.

How to pack the tyres?

Packaging with stretch film

You can use both transparent and opaque film other than black for packaging. Choose a film that is made of tear-resistant material. When wrapped, it must cover at least 3/4 of the tyre and in at least three layers.

Covering tyres with cardboard

If you don't feel comfortable wrapping your tyres in stretch film, you can also use cardboard. Simply cover the centres of the tyres with pieces of cardboard so that there is no risk of a smaller parcel getting caught in the centre.

Where can I get a shipping label?

You will receive a label to mark your shipment from us in your email after you complete your order. You will also find it when you open the link with the details of your shipment. Follow the instructions to print it and place it on the flat outside of the tire so that the barcode can be scanned. Secure the label so that it does not come loose from the shipment.

<30 kg

Tyres up to size 18’’

Pack passenger car tyres up to and including 18'' in a maximum of two pieces and only if the total weight of the package does not exceed 30 kilograms. Connect the tyres tightly and wrap them with stretch film. This protects not only your tyres but also the surrounding packages.

Tyres larger than 18’’

Pack tyres larger than 18'' individually, one at a time. The maximum weight per tyre must not exceed 30 kilograms. Always wrap the tyre with stretch film.

Tyres with rims

Send the tyres and rims separately. The rims can easily scratch. Wrap the tyres whole in a cardboard box or wrap them in stretch film with protective sheets of cardboard on both sides of the rims. These cardboard sheets can also be secured with adhesive tape.

Send tyres with TOPTRANS

Tyres without rims

In this case, you can send two tires as one shipment. Of course, tires are very durable, so there is no need to pay more attention to their packaging. Just tie them tightly together with stretch film and tape them over with adhesive tape. For tyres R19 and above, pack each tyre separately.

Tyres with rims

It is advisable to send each tyre with rims separately. The rims can easily scratch. Also, wrap the tyres in stretch film, but before doing so, cut out the cardboard and attach it to the rim on both sides. These cardboard sheets can also be secured with adhesive tape.
